SLUGGERNUT
a short story by me

Snow in Portland, it's a rarity!

Early morning hours. Waking up to snow in Portland is ... a first. Luckily we'd just put up our xmas tree the night before!
First Snow
Walking through the snow on my way to work in the early morning hours, the snow is lily white, the air electric and crisp, and the world is silent. Blazing the trail.
Setting out
My walk to the bus, so pretty.
Pretty in white.
A white kitty lives here, probably snug inside warm and toasty.
White Picket Fence
A single pink rose petal laying amongst the freshly fallen snow. In Portland, flowers bloom throughout the year, I don't think they expected the snow fall.
Pink Rose
To the left of me, bushes to the right.
Bushes
Reaching upward. Where are the crows this fine winter's morning?
Skeleton fingers
Going across the Hawthorne bridge looking out onto the multiple super highways, bridges, and icy cold waters beneath.
Bridge to downtown.
Still on my way downtown. Tall buildings approacheth.

On the way home.
Another Transformer box, another Tsunami playhouse.
Tsunami Peekaboo
Tsunami flattens himself on the table while I begin to cook.
Flat
On a cold winters night I begin to make homemade vegtable soup. Commodore becomes smitten with the vegtables and stays on the counter for the next three hours.
Commodore soup
While I made homemade vegetable soup and oatmeal cookies, Commodore slept on the counter with the broccoli, and Adam took apart robots. The Beatles Anthology played on my laptop in the background. It was a lovely evening.
A Robot's surgery.
My day off work, encased in snow and ice, I lounge with the cats, watch movies, and read my book. Life is good.
The next morning.
One minute he's fast asleep, the next he's wide awake. Cats!

Coffee is my fourth love. There's Adam, Commodore, Tsunami, and then coffee. Sorry mom and dad. Those brown bits on the side of the mug is cinnamon. Yum!
Addicted
Okay so he's actually not fat at all, he's a very small kitty, but his pose here with all that white fur and the camera angle, yeah, looks like he ate a small dog. Or Commodore! I haven't seen him in a while ...
Fattty
Commodore weighs about 12 pounds. He's not fat by any means, but he's a tall solid cat. This bed he's laying in is Tsunami's bed. Tsunami weighs about 8 pounds soaking wet. He's small and petite and can fit in a salad bowl. This bed fits Tsunami perfectly. Commodore likes to pretend he's not busting out at the seams in it.
Pretending
Commodore basking in the last of a winter's daylight.

It's been a good couple of days off. Now it's back to work tomorrow and it looks like we're in for more winter storms. Oh, darn. ;)
Bed time.
