Birthday Wish   —   Holidays

Yesterday's birthday was pretty great. We got off to an unexpected late start so the plans we'd made for breakfast at the Original Pancake House turned into an improvised alternate plan for brunch at the Tin Shed Garden Cafe. Coming out of a long and disastrous night and into a sleep deprived cusp-of-a-cold achy-back day, the fragile tone of the afternoon seemed to be riding on the success of our meal. Fortunately Adam had made an excellent choice in restaurants, not only was the atmosphere filled with energy, but the food was inventive and delicious. They even give you coffee while you wait for a table to become available. Coffee = happiness.

After brunch we were forced to face the obstacle that had been the crux of my 30th... what to do with the day. We decided to stop at a music store on the way home to look for some Joni Mitchell albums I'd been hunting for, and then after making a quick pit-stop home, we took advantage of the beautiful weather and took a walk down Hawthorne hitting some shops along the way. We decided to cancel the fancy dinner plans we'd made at Lucy's Table downtown and instead make a simple meal of chicken and a salad at home. The rest of the late afternoon we spent in the kitchen, at first making my favorite birthday cake

(strawberry cake with vanilla frosting), and then drinking wine while making dinner and listening to an episode of My Favorite Husband. We finished off the evening watching a stand-up comedy routine of Eddie Izzard while eating cake and drinking more wine.

After fretting over making my 30th memorable with a big event, it ended up being even more memorable because the man of my dreams spent his entire day trying his hardest to make me happy.

Little did I realize that just the simplicity of spending the entire day together, was all I could have ever wanted.
