I can't sleep.   —   Health

I remember the best sleep I have ever had. I was 18 years old and living with my boyfriend. We lived in a two-story house with his band mates but the second level we had to ourselves, a bathroom, his bedroom and my bedroom. I had wanted my own bedroom when we agreed that I move in, to have some space and privacy of my own. One weekend I got really sick with the flu. I was running a temperature of 102 or something close to that, and I was so fevered that I was hallucinating. I spent the weekend in bed, his bed, with the tv turned quietly to cartoons and all the lights off, curtains closed. I slept on and off for three days straight. When I wasn't sleeping I felt like I was in a waking dream and the bed was damp with my perspiration. I barely got out of bed except to drag myself to the toliet. I didn't eat, I didn't shower. Of course my boyfriend wasn't taking care of me (he was a bit of a prick sometimes), and while he was going out with his friends and sleeping in my bedroom, I slept, fevered, in his. So the days and nights were full of strange black and white cartoons and confusing lucid dreams. When my fever broke I woke up and had no idea what day it was. I felt like Alice and that within those days I had been on amazing adventures.
